Domestic Discoveries

A couple of exciting things have happened to my kitchen recently.  No, we’re not remodeling.  For Christmas (as posted previously), Mark crossed my electric grain mill of choice, the Nutrimill, off my wishlist!  Since then I’ve been making lots of bread!  Some is for giving to neighbors & friends, but with six us of in the house, quite a bit stays here!  I’ve had the Wonder Junior for a while now and love its versatility (you’ve just GOT to come over for some fresh, nothing added, almond butter!), but for frequent bread making, the electric is much more suitable.

     

Since I’ve been making more bread, that prompted me to start looking for the best prices on whole wheat berries.  The red ones are easy to find, but the white ones (and ‘they’ say the white are best!) have completely alluded me here in SoCal.  After several disappointments, I finally found Azure Standard!  A 2,000 acre farm in Oregon, committed to organic production.  You might be thinking, “How does that help you in SoCal?”  They have “drop points” or buying clubs in 21 states, including one right here in my area!  Not only do I get organic food in California at Oregon prices, but there’s NO shipping charge!!  Their catalog is huge (272 pages!) with a w-i-d-e variety of products.  Frozen chicken, fresh dairy, bulk grains, body care, books, kitchen equipment and lots more!  Here’s a list of my first order – $124 total.
